Black Friday VR Deal Predictions
- Oculus Rift will be as low as $320
- PlayStation VR bundles will be widely available from $185
- Don't expect further price drops on the HTC Vive in 2018
The Oculus Rift system was released in 2016 and cost $599 without the Touch controllers, but it's become rapidly more affordable since then. Now the Oculus Rift and Touch bundle retails for $399.
For Black Friday 2018, we're expecting to see the Oculus Rift bundle hit at least $320. That's still pricey, but far cheaper than the $800 it would have set you back at release.
The Marvel Powers Special Edition bundle for Oculus Rift includes the headset, controllers, and the Marvel Powers United VR game for $399. For Black Friday, there's a chance this bundle could see a modest discount.
We may also see deals on the Oculus Go, which is a standalone headset. It was released earlier this year, but we've already seen a couple of deals that dropped the price as low as $169. On Black Friday, the Oculus Go might see a slightly bigger drop to around $165.
PlayStation VR remains one of the more affordable ways to get into VR, assuming you already own a PS4. Last year, PSVR bundles fell to $255, while this year we've already seen a package with Doom VR for $187.
We expect to see similar PlayStation VR bundles drop to $185 or less for Black Friday 2018. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim bundle has been popular this year, and we've already seen it fall to $230. That one could be priced between $220 and $250 on Black Friday; we expect these bundles to include gift cards to make them more appealing.
Unfortunately, if you're hoping for Black Friday VR deals on the HTC Vive, you're probably out of luck. The system received an official price drop earlier this year, knocking $100 off and bringing the new list price to $499. With such a steep discount coming so recently, it's unlikely that HTC will be eager to drop the price of the Vive VR system any further — even if it's just for the holidays.
Keep your fingers crossed, though. Maybe we'll get lucky with a sitewide coupon that can be applied to the HTC Vive on Black Friday!
