Walmart is open during most major holidays, but not all. Read on for our breakdown on what holidays the store will close for and more.

Walmart is an incredibly popular retailer for many reasons, one of which is that it serves as a kind of one-stop shop for things like groceries and household supplies, as well as clothing, school supplies, entertainment options, and so much more. But part of the problem with shopping anywhere is knowing what their holiday hours are like.

While Walmart used to basically be open 24 hours every day of the year, that's no longer the case. In recent years, Walmart stores have scaled back, with some being open for 17 hours, but not around the clock. Some locations may maintain a 24-hour operating schedule, but those may be harder to find — when in doubt, check with your local store before heading out.

For all the details on Walmart's 2025 holiday hours, keep reading for our breakdown below.

What Are Walmart's Holiday Hours?

Walmart used to be known as a store you could visit any time of day, with their Super Centers being open for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Holidays didn't matter, as they preferred to be able to serve customers needs whatever the day or occasion may be.

Walmart Holiday Hours in 2025

Martin Luther King Jr. Day (January 20), Valentine's Day (February 14), and Presidents' Day (February 17). These holidays are the first ones of the year to provide savings opportunities for shoppers, and Walmart tends to be open on each of them for its normal hours. In most cases, that means they open at 6 am and close at 11 pm local time.

St. Patrick's Day (March 17), Good Friday (April 18), and the day before Easter (April 19). These are all relatively minor holidays for a retailer, so it should come as no surprise that they operate business-as-usual those days. Expect stores to be open from 6 am to 11 pm local time depending on your area, with service departments open regular hours, as well.

Easter Sunday (April 20). This can be a popular holiday in some areas of the United States more than others, but even so, Walmart Easter hours should be the normal business hours for last-minute shoppers who need a bunny-shaped chocolate or forgot something for their Easter dinners. That means your store will likely be open 6 am to 11 pm, but it's best to check before you venture out just in case.

Mother's Day (May 11), Memorial Day (May 26), Flag Day (June 14), and Father's Day (June 15). These are fairly minor holidays when it comes to shopping opportunities, with Memorial Day being the obvious exception. It's no surprise that Walmart operates normal business hours on Mother's Day, Flag Day, and Father's Day, but even on Memorial Day you can expect it to be open from 6 am to 11 pm local time. This should make it much easier to pick up last-minute gifts or anything you may need for your barbecue to unofficially kick off the start of summer.

Juneteenth (June 19) and Independence Day (July 4). While these are federal holidays, that doesn't mean Walmart will close its stores to celebrate. In fact, if you're wondering about Walmart 4th of July hours, you'll see that it should be open normally, from 6 am to 11 pm, for all your last-minute holiday needs (except for fireworks).

Labor Day (September 1). Count on Walmart opening its doors at the usual time of 6 am on Labor Day 2025. Expect services such as grocery pickup, Walmart's pharmacy and vision center, and others to have their usual hours, too. Keep an eye on Walmart's Labor Day savings page for more updates on their holiday offerings.

Walmart stays open on most major holidays these days, except for Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.

Columbus Day (October 13), Halloween (October 31), and Veterans Day (November 11). Retailers don't acknowledge Columbus Day much anymore, so it's no surprise that day will probably be just like any other at Walmart. As far as Halloween goes, it's a great thing the retailer opens for normal hours that day, as plenty of shoppers find they need last-minute candy or costume accessories. As for Veterans Day, Walmart once again opens as normal, so shoppers can swing by and take advantage of any extra savings to celebrate the holiday.

Day before Thanksgiving (November 26). The day before the big holiday, count on Walmart being open as normal from 6 am to 11 pm at most stores, but hours could vary by location. If you have any doubts, it's best to give them a call to check before you head out for last-minute feast supplies.

Thanksgiving (November 27). Expect Walmart to follow the tradition it's laid out in recent years, closing stores on Thanksgiving Day itself. Even so, shoppers can still take advantage of online Thanksgiving deals in between courses of their festive feast.

Black Friday (November 28). Gone are the days when shoppers had to line up outside their favorite stores at 2 am to wait for the doors to open two hours later. Walmart will offer up many Black Friday deals online, but if you want to shop in-store, the retailer will typically open an hour early at most locations for Black Friday at 5 am local time and remain open until 11 pm local time as usual.

Christmas Eve (December 24). Walmart will probably be open on Christmas Eve, but it may have limited hours. Whether they open at the normal time of 6 am or sometime later, it's best to plan for them to close at 6 pm local time that night.

Christmas Day (December 25). Walmart has recently started closing its doors on Christmas Day, and it should be the same for 2025.

Day after Christmas (December 26). The retailer should be back to normal operating hours the day after Christmas, so expect Walmart to open at 6 am and close at 11 pm.

Is Walmart Open on New Year's?

Walmart is open normal hours on both New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, so be prepared to shop from 6 am to 11 pm each day.

Is Walmart Open on Christmas Day?

No, Walmart is expected to be closed once again on Christmas Day 2025.

What Is Walmart's Holiday Return Policy?

Walmart usually extends its holiday return policy to some degree. Previously, purchases made between October 1 through December 31 could be returned through January 31 of the following year. We expect to see something similar for the holiday 2025 season.

As for its standard return policy, Walmart has one that may just surprise you with its structure. If you have any questions about whether or not you can return an item, it's a good idea to read our breakdown of the Walmart return policy first to make sure you don't waste your time.

Are There Any Special Considerations That I Should Know Of?

Different departments can have hours that vary slightly from the overall store. It's always a good idea to check with your local store for specifics before heading out, just to ensure you can find what you need when you need it. Give them a call, or check the website and find your local store to see what the hours of operation are for different areas of the store.

Walmart Auto Care Centers. Hours and services can vary by location, but they're generally open for a shorter period daily than the overall store. For example, some Walmart auto hours may be from 7 am to 7 pm every day of the week, but other locations may have a slightly shorter schedule, such as 8 am to 6 pm, and even shorter hours on Sundays.

Walmart auto services tend to include tire installation, general maintenance, and oil changes, though some may provide more or less depending on the area.

Walmart Delis. Walmart deli hours vary by location, but typically they open a bit later than the store itself and close a bit earlier as well. For instance, at a store where the normal operating times are 6 am to 11 pm, the Walmart deli hours may be something like 8 am to 9 pm.

Walmart Bakeries. The bakeries in a Walmart have a similar schedule to the store and the deli, but may differ slightly. Like the example above, where a store is open 6 am to 11 pm, Walmart bakery hours could be 7 am to 10 pm seven days a week. Be sure to check with your local store before making any plans.

Curbside Pickup. Walmart curbside pickup services are highly dependent on which store you're shopping at, so if you can't find any info online, give your local store a call. Most often, if the service is being offered, it's generally from as early as 7 am or so until as late as 10 pm at night, again depending on the area. That said, if you place an order after 3 pm or 4 pm, be prepared to pick up the following day, as orders placed that late won't be ready for same-day pickup.

Different departments have varied service hours depending on when the overall store is open.

Customer Support. Walmart customer support can be found online at any time, but if you're hoping to speak to an associate in person, you'll be limited by the store hours. Walmart customer service hours are going to essentially be the same as the overall store hours, although you may want to time your visit an hour or two after opening as well as an hour or two before closing in order to ensure you have enough time to have your issues resolved.

Walmart Sensory Hours. Some Walmart stores offer sensory-friendly hours for a more calming shopping experience. Often Walmart sensory hours run for a couple of hours each morning and can vary depending on the regular schedule. For instance, a store that opens at 6 am may offer sensory-friendly hours from 8 am to 10 am. Be sure to check with your local store for details.
