Black Friday Alexa Device Predictions
- Get the Echo Dot speaker for as little as $30
- Shop current-gen Echo speakers from $70
- The new Echo Plus with Hue bulb bundle will be $120
If you're looking to add voice control to your home, we expect retailers to drop Amazon's 2nd Generation Echo Dot to at least $30 around Black Friday. Certain stores could also offer deeper discounts. Additionally, we could see these smart speakers offered in multipacks or bundled with smart home items, if retailers are trying to clear out old inventory.
Plus, Amazon just announced the 3rd Gen Echo Dot. If you're shopping for the latest Dot, know that it should drop to a stand-alone price of around $40. Otherwise, we expect to see multipacks with slight savings. For instance, you could buy two and save $10.
Though Echo Dots don't have the sound quality of larger speakers, they should suit most households just fine. But if you'd prefer a larger smart speaker with better microphones and sound quality, you should be able to get an Echo for around $70 this Black Friday. You might get slightly better discounts with bundles, but those are less common with Echos than with mini smart speakers.
You should also expect some great discounts on higher-end speakers, mostly from Amazon. We'll start with the Echo Plus, which adds a smart home hub to a standard Echo speaker and has just received an update. As with the previous generation, this one comes bundled with a Philips Hue bulb.
The first Echo Plus units dropped $30 for Black Friday 2017, and we're expecting the latest Plus to hit $120, too. However, Target could drop it way down to around $90 (which it did with the first Echo Plus last Black Friday). Shopping the older model? We're expecting it to fall to $80.
Then there's the Echo Show, which is an Echo speaker with a screen. The latest Echo Show will be released just over a month before Black Friday, so we're expecting modest discounts — at best — on this second-gen device. We could see the current buy-two-for-$360 offer still hanging around, but it's reasonable to expect the stand-alone price to drop to $200 from the $230 MSRP.
The Show is also bundled with a free 1-month Hulu trial right now. The offer must be redeemed by January 9, 2019, so it could still be around for Black Friday, making any price drops more appealing. Any first-generation Shows hanging around could drop to $130.
