What Deal Seekers Should Know About Sephora's May 2024 Sale

Beauty is only skin-deep, and so should only ever be bought on sale

A Sephora storefront in France

Sephora's one of the biggest names in beauty, so it's important to know when you can save the most money on their most popular products. Sephora runs two Savings Events for its Beauty Insiders members throughout the year, one in the spring, and the other in the holiday season. But when, exactly? And what? And how? And why? Some of these questions will be answered more thoroughly than others, in what we can now declare the DealNews guide to Sephora's savings events.

Top Deals at Sephora

Sephora Collection x Wet Brush Luxe Ultimate Treatment Hair Brush for $9.50 (50% off)

This brush boasts a combination of synthetic and boar bristles, distributing natural oils through all hair types with equal aplomb. Does this make it easier to forgive a "Wet Brush" hairbrush coming with the caveat that it "works best when hair is dry"? That's up to you, but it being half off doesn't hurt.

Viktor and Rolf Flowerbomb or Flowerbomb Tiger Lily Trial-Size: Free w/ $30 purchase for Beauty Insider members

The Flowerbomb range promises to "reveal the layers of your feminine essence", which sounds like a big claim for a fragrance, even if it does have coconut, wild tiger lily, and mango running through it. Luckily, you can put it to the test with these trial sizes, which come for free with a $30 order.

FSA/HSA-Eligible Skin Care at Sephora: Shop Now for Reimbursements

Under certain FSA and HSA (flexible spending accounts and health savings accounts, respectively) employee benefit plans, you can get reimbursed on a selection of sunscreens, acne treatments, acne preventions, medicated skin treatments, and prenatal vitamins. Just save your receipts and submit them as a claim after the fact.

Free Standard Shipping at Sephora: Free for members, $50 minimum otherwise

You can spend $50 at Sephora to get free shipping, sure. But what if we told you that's the rube's option? What if you could just join Beauty Insiders (for free) and get free shipping on all orders, with no minimum spend? Sounds like a fever dream, but no: it's reality, and it can be your reality.

Urban Decay Naked Metal Mania Metallic Eyeshadow Palette for $30 (50% off)

It's not for us to say if the name "Naked Metal Mania" promises a more extreme, Mad Max-esque cornucopia of delights than a simple eyeshadow palette can deliver. All we can say is that, at half off, it's about as delightful as you could hope for from an eyeshadow palette..

Fenty Beauty Lil Butta Dropz Mini Whipped Oil Body Cream Trio for $30 (50% off)

I'm aware you're supposed to read "Lil Butta Dropz" as a whole phrase. But it's far funnier to imagine "Lil Butta" as the rap name given to a delightfully chubby child star. These moisturizers, much like me, contain nearly 25% rich butters, but they also promise antioxidants and vitamins and stuff.

Sephora Sale: Up to 65% off

It's not the Spring Savings Event, but we can't ignore the nearly 150 items are on sale here, including face masks, brushes, lip liners, and more. Deals start from $3, with either a mini nail polish kit, a face mask, or – inexplicably – a pencil sharpener. We don't know either.

Youth to the People, The INKEY List, or Caudalie Skin Care Trial-Size: Free w/ $30 purchase for Beauty Insider members

Skincare for free isn't a hard sales pitch to make. Even I, a fella with skin so neglected it's taken on the texture of an old suede belt you accidentally microwaved, could go for some free skin-care. So Beauty Insiders adding some of these trial size kits to their order of $30 or more is a no-brainer.

Sephora Value and Gift Sets: Shop Now
These sets are a great way to try out new or interesting products, while saving a fair amount compared to what the bundled contents would sell for normally. (See the "value" amount next to the actual price.) Gift sets, of course, can be gifted from you to you. There's nothing saying they can't, and no shame will be cast upon your family. We're all just looking for a little succor in this cruel world.

When Is The Spring Sephora Savings Event?

Sephora's Spring Savings Event ran from April 5 through April 15 for Beauty Insiders Rouge members (which requires a $1,000 annual spend at the store). Other members got to shop the sale from April 9 through April 15. Rouge members got 20% off via code "YAYSAVE", while VIB members ($350 spend per year) got 15% off, and regular Beauty Insider members enjoyed 10% off. All members got 30% off Sephora Collection items for the full duration of the sale.

How Often Does Sephora Have Sales?

Sephora will usually have a way to save around once a month: look forward to a Memorial Day sale, a Fourth of July sale, a bonus summer event in August for VIB and VIB Rouge members, a fall sale, and of course, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Christmas sales as the year comes to a close. But most importantly, you can expect a second Savings Event towards the end of the year, around late October or early November, offering similar savings to the Spring Savings Event just gone by. So if you missed out, patience.

How Long Does The Sale Last?

The sale lasts a week for VIB and regular Beauty Insiders members. For Rouge members the sale lasts a few days longer, because of the early access you're afforded. (One thing it doesn't last, at least this year, is "until now", so, sorry.)

Does Sephora Ever Offer 20% Off?

During their Savings Events (both Spring and otherwise), Rouge members get 20% off. (Regular members get 10% off.) You can also expect to save 20% with larger orders during their Black Friday sale, and an extra 20% off sale items in their after-Christmas sale. So even if this Savings Event is a few weeks past, you still have plenty of strong savings to anticipate.

How Many Times Can You Use The Sephora Spring Code?

The Sephora Spring Savings Event allowed you to use the coupon code "YAYSAVE" as often as you pleased — no upper limit, except for your imagination. The bad news is: you can't use it anymore. The better news is: any time these Savings Events are ongoing at Sephora, you can expect the same policy to apply, albeit perhaps with a different coupon code.

If you're all set to shop at Sephora despite the Spring Savings Event being a little passé, be a sport and take a look at our Sephora store page, why not? It'll be packed with all the latest deals we've spotted there. If that's not enough, you can sign up for the DealNews Select newsletter, which delivers dozens of smoking hot deals direct to your inbox Monday to Friday. Or, get more specific by setting up a Deal Alert for yourself. It's all happening.
