How to Shop and Save on Patagonia at REI

As far as companies with good reputations go, you probably can't get much better than Patagonia and REI both. After all, Patagonia's quality has been hailed as "buy-it-for-life" from devoted fans, and the company recently announced all future profits will be donated to climate change philanthropy. As for REI, it's another eco-conscious company, and one that has made it a point of pride to ignore Black Friday week sales and give their workers the day off to "opt outside."

With those kinds of practices, it's no wonder outdoorsy shoppers are on the lookout for Patagonia products at REI, since it's a good way to support both companies. But it's also a good way to maximize savings! Check out our guide on how to save on Patagonia at REI below.

How to Save on Patagonia at REI

What Patagonia Items are Available at REI?

Before you take steps to save on your purchases, it's helpful to know what Patagonia products are even available at REI. As of this writing, there were 427 items from Patagonia to shop, but if that sounds overwhelming, REI also has the brand divvied up into categories to make things easier, including:

The categories are kind of broad, but within you'll find everything from t-shirts and sweaters to fleece jackets and down outerwear, along with shorts, vests, rompers, pants, and accessories like beanies.

When is the REI Patagonia Sale?

REI has several sales throughout the year, all of which may extend to their selection of Patagonia goods. However, there are select months where discounts may be purely Patagonia-branded. For example, in June 2022, REI knocked up to 50% off select Patagonia items — including coats, t-shirts, packs, swimwear, and more — with prices starting at just $15. A little over a month later, REI offered up to 66% off, with items including swimwear, coats, pants, and t-shirts. The very next day, that discount jumped to a maximum value of 69%. REI offered more deals on Patagonia gear in August, taking up to 66% off mid-month and then up to 51% off around 10 days later.

Look for Patagonia savings in any of REI's sales, but be sure to watch for brand-specific discounts up to 70% off too.

The next Patagonia-specific sale happened October 30, when REI knocked up to 70% off jackets, shorts, t-shirts, and more. Around November 20, this offer returned again, which was the last hurrah before Black Friday. This is largely due to the fact that REI doesn't celebrate Black Friday — instead, the store offers up sales beforehand, then closes for both Thanksgiving and Black Friday.

What Kind of Patagonia Discounts Can You Expect?

As noted above, discounts can vary widely, sometimes even from one day to the next. If there's something you're interested in buying, it's worth creating an account and adding the items to your wishlist. The list won't note when something is on sale, though, so you may want to add a note to the item with its regular price so you can see easily and at-a-glance if it's discounted or not.

Based on what we've seen, Patagonia discounts will range from around 50% off to as much as 70% off depending on the month and season. However, there's a chance that more extensive sales will have bigger savings. For example, on December 26 we saw a sale at REI that took up to 75% off previous season items from big brands, Patagonia included.

Tips for Saving on Patagonia at REI

Become a Co-op Member

For a one-time fee of $30, you can become an REI Co-op Member — a loyalty program that offers a ton of benefits. For example, members get 10% back annually on every purchase, free standard shipping with no minimum required, and perks like special offers, discounts, Member Bonus Cards, and more. Members also receive exclusive access to the Member Collection, which includes early-access to curated products as well as limited-edition gear, both from big brands. It's not a guarantee that this collection will contain Patagonia items, but it's definitely a possibility, and with new items added monthly, it's worth checking out!

Shop the REI Anniversary Sale

This is REI's biggest and best savings event in many cases, and it runs in the days leading up to Memorial Day, along with the holiday itself. While some savings may be modest — think up to 30% off select items — maximum discounts may also be up to 75% off. At least some Patagonia products will likely be included in this sale, and if you're a Co-op Member, you can save even more. In the last anniversary sale, members saved an extra 20% off one item via a coupon code online.

Watch for Coupons in the Mail

REI sends out periodic physical catalogs that will sometimes have coupons attached to the front cover. If they have your mailing address on file, be sure to watch for these. They're not a frequently sent item, though, so be sure to keep an eye out — they tend to show up around the bigger sales, rather than on a regular basis.
