How to Save Money at REI
REI sells gear and clothing for outdoor adventures and active lifestyles. In addition to their own REI brand, they sell items from popular brands like The North Face, Patagonia, Columbia, and Keen. They also offer the potential to save extra money on these brands through the various offers they release.
Here are the types of discounts you can expect to find at REI, and tips on how you can save on your next purchase.
Types of Coupons at REI
There are typically up to two REI coupon codes per month that are either for all customers, new or existing members, or new members only. During some months, they may not have a code available at all, but they also offer a variety of non-code based offers, some of which give the same type of discount as their codes.
REI mixes it up between coupon codes, in-cart discounts, and product sales or free gift cards with select purchases.
Discounts to Expect: For Members
A lifetime membership at REI is $20. Benefits include access to exclusive member offers and 10% back annually on qualifying purchases.
A common REI member offer involves receiving a $20 bonus card for a future purchase with an order of $100 or more. Some of these offers are only for new members and require a coupon code, while others are available for both new and existing members without a code. For new members, the $20 lifetime membership fee is required in addition to the $100 minimum purchase. These types of offers are typically longer in duration, lasting nine days to six weeks, and are available in most months of the year.
REI may also release member coupon codes for 20% off one regularly priced item, 20% off one outlet item, or both. These codes are shorter in duration, lasting one to nine days, and less frequent than the $20 bonus card offer. However, you can expect to see some type of member offer released regularly throughout the year.
Discounts to Expect: For Everyone Else
REI also releases coupon codes, offers, and sales that are available to all customers. A discount of 15% off one REI brand or Novara item is available to anyone with email sign-up. A common offer involves a code or in-cart discount for an extra 15% to 35% off outlet items, which may require a minimum purchase or only apply to select brands. These extra outlet discounts appear about six to seven times per year.
Even without an extra discount, the REI Outlet is a great place to scout for low sale prices on individual items. While being patient for the next coupon code to come out may be wise in some cases, many outlet items are so cheap that they might potentially sell out quickly, so don't be afraid to jump on these deals without a code. You'll also want to watch for sitewide sales of up to 50% off, which are most commonly found around holiday weekends.
Shipping Costs
Shipping at REI is free on orders of $50 or more. During the last holiday shopping season, from November to the end of the year, they offered free shipping with no minimum purchase.
How to Redeem a Code at REI
Add a product to the cart and click Checkout. The coupon code box is located in the Review and Submit order section after you enter your shipping and billing address. REI allows one coupon per order.
