What Else to Know About the Google Pixel 9 Pro

As we get going, let's stipulate that at time of publication, nothing has been officially announced. Much of what's to come is our best guess based on rumors and leaks. But that's half the fun for now!

How Much Storage Does the Pixel 9 Pro Have?

The Pixel 9 Pro series is likely to come with four storage options: 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. That's standard for flagship phones right now.

What Colors Does the Pixel 9 Pro Come In?

Tom's Guide presages the phones coming in black, white, pink, and green variations. For bonus credit, you can guess whether Google will stick with their previous synonyms for these colors: the Pixel 8 had "Obsidian" for Black and "Rose" for Pink, for example. We think they can go weirder, since you'll probably just call them black, white, pink, and green, like Tom's Guide does. Think "Baby Grinch" for the green one or something.

How Much Does the Pixel 9 Pro Cost?

No hard info just yet (but soon!), but TechRadar's best guesses should give us a rough idea. To wit: a screenshot from T-Mobile showed the Google Pixel 9 Pro prices starting at $999.99. The Pixel 9 Pro XL is expected to start $200 higher, from $1,199. It's thought that the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold will start a good bit higher, at $1,799.

How Does the Pixel 9 Pro Compare to the Pixel 8?

All signs point to the Pixel 9 Pro (and XL and Fold) having a Tensor G4 processor, which will be relied upon heavily for the phones' signature Gemini AI chatbot. As this Forbes piece indicates, expect AI tools to come up a lot. At least some of the smartphones will also probably come with 16GB RAM or more, which Digital Trends notes would be the first time a Pixel phone has exceeded 12GB RAM.

Expect Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile to offer at least the 128GB Pixel 9 Pro for free with a qualifying trade-in and plan.

They also note that while the Pixel 9 Pro keeps the 50MP main camera, 48MP ultrawide camera, and 48MP telephoto lens the Pixel 8 Pro had, the sensors will be improved, and you'll get a beefy 42MP selfie camera (which is significantly improved from its predecessor's 10.5MP).

The Pixel 9 Pro will likely have a 6.3" display, so you'll have to go for the XL version to match the Pixel 8 Pro's display size (around 6.7"). However, there is word of an M14 OLED screen, with massively improved brightness — this is the same spec as the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro will apparently use. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold looks to have a 6.3" cover display, with an 8" flex inner display.

What's the Pixel 9 Release Date?

The Pixel 9 release date will no doubt be confirmed during the Made by Google event, but we expect the Pixel 9 Pro release date to be sometime in late August. At the very least, their upcoming Google TV Streamer launches September 24, and their new 4th-Gen. Nest Thermostat August 20, so anywhere in between those dates is a strong possibility.

What Carriers Will Have the Pixel 9 Pro?

We've already seen the internet glean info about these phones from a T-Mobile screenshot, so it's fair to assume that we'll see them on T-Mobile. But you can also expect the usual suspects to show up: AT&T, Verizon, and even Mint. You'll also obviously be able to buy an unlocked model.

How to Save on Pixel 9 Pro Phones

Trade-in deals at launch will likely be the best way to save. You can reasonably expect Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile to offer at least the 128GB Pixel 9 Pro for free with a qualifying trade-in and plan. This type of deal could extend to other sizes, and even one or more sizes of the Pixel 9 Pro XL, too. But it's unlikely to cover the more expensive Pixel 9 Pro Fold. TechRadar did mention the possibility of a Samsung-esque "512GB for the price of 256GB" preorder deal, so keep your eyes open for that.
