How Can You Get the Apple Education Discount?

Teachers, education workers, parents, school board members, and PTA members can visit the Apple Store for Education and verify their credentials. The Apple Store for Education lists reduced pricing. Have your school ID or proof of eligibility handy. (Sometimes proof is not even required at checkout, as reported by several Reddit users.) If you buy during a promotional period and a gift card is included, you'll receive it via email within 24 hours of shipping of your purchased item.

Who Is Eligible for the Apple Education Discount?

  • College and university students
  • Parents of college and university students
  • People working in education, including faculty, staff, homeschool teachers, and even PTA or PTO employees

How Much Is the Discount?

Apple's student discount is 10% for products, including computers, iPads, displays, and software, and 20% for AppleCare+. That works out to $100 off a 15" MacBook Air, $100 off an iPad Pro, or $100 off a 24" iMac, depending on the models. In addition, Apple typically runs a Back to School Sale around June, which offers gift cards worth up to $150 with purchases of Macs or iPads.

During the promotional period, gift cards are offered in addition to the percent-off discount. Summer 2024 gift card offers are as follows:

  • $150 Apple gift card with purchase of iMac, MacBook Pro, or MacBook Air
  • $100 Apple gift card with purchase of Mac mini
  • $100 Apple gift card with purchase of 11" or 13" M4 iPad Pro, or an 11" or 13" M2 iPad Air

Which Products Are Eligible for the Education Discount?

Several Apple products are eligible for student and educational discounts. (iPhones are not eligible, but there are plenty of other deals available on those throughout the year.) Here's the list of what qualifies:

  • MacBook Air
  • MacBook Pro
  • iMac
  • Mac mini
  • Apple Studio Display
  • Pro Display XDR
  • Mac Pro
  • Mac Studio
  • iPad
  • iPad mini
  • iPad Air
  • iPad Pro
  • Pro Apps Bundle: Logic Pro X, Final Cut Pro, Motion, Compressor, and MainStage
  • Apple Music

How Much Can You Save?

Savings vary with the Apple Student Discount, depending on the products and Apple deals happening elsewhere. Typically that means 10% off products, with gift cards worth up to $150 during promotional periods, and 20% off AppleCare+.

Amazon's Prime Day sometimes offers deeper reductions on Apple products than Apple direct. College students and educators may be able to take $100 off a new Apple device at Apple, but they'd be wise to check around at Amazon and other retailers to make sure there aren't better deals available, particularly as back-to-school sales arrive. And of course, Black Friday typically sees some of the best prices on Apple devices of the year, which often beats the student discount.

In regards to Apple Music, Apple's student discount can't be beat. It's 50% off, which means $5.99 per month for up to 48 months. Plus, you'll get two months of Apple TV free!

How Has the Discount Changed Over Time?

In previous years, Apple has offered free AirPods instead of gift cards during promotional periods. If it's AirPods you want, there's nothing stopping you from using the promotional gift cards towards your purchase.
