January is here and with it comes the expectations of White Sales, which will offer opportunities to save big on new home goods.

While waiting for White Sales can be a good way to find discounted bedding, if you shop Target you may not have to wait. That's because the bullseye retailer already has excellent prices on bedding — prices that get even better when sales roll around.

Curious about what kinds of bedding sets you'll find at Target? Check out our guide below!

Why You Should Buy Bedding Sets at Target

Whether you need a light coverlet for your bed or a cozy comforter for the winter, Target offers plenty of bedding sets. You'll be able to choose from all kinds of sizes, materials, patterns, and colors.

You'll have the biggest selection at Target in standard sizes — that is, Twin, Full/Queen, and King.

Basically, Target has everything you need to refresh your bedroom, including stylish new bedding. This means you can end up doing all your home shopping in one place rather than having to shop around to find what you need at a price point that fits your budget.

What Bedding Sizes Can You Buy?

Target offers bedding sets and sheets in every size you could possibly need. You'll find Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, and California King sets, as well as bedding sized for toddler mattresses.

We're particularly impressed with the selection of Twin XL items at Target. The first time I became aware of Twin XL-size bedding was when I was preparing to go to college in 2004. Dorm beds were all Twin XL and we had to special order sheets to fit them. Now, you can find sheets and bedding sets to fit those extra long beds at your local Target.

One thing to remember is you'll have the biggest selection at Target in standard sizes — that is, Twin, Full/Queen, and King. Outside of that, you'll still have plenty to choose from, but the selection might be slightly smaller (especially for California King).

What's the Difference Between Different Types of Bedding?

With so many types of bedding, how do you know what's right for you? Below, we break down the bedding terms you need to know.

  • Bedspread: Bedspreads are lightweight bed coverings that can be used alone during warmer weather or layered with blankets in colder weather. They're decorative, and big enough to cover the bed with edges going all the way to the floor.

  • Comforter: Comforters are thick and fluffy coverings meant to keep you warm during colder weather. They're not meant for warm weather, and can usually be washed like sheets and blankets. (Be sure to check your care instructions before tossing your comforter in the wash, though!)

  • Coverlet: Very decorative pieces, coverlets are meant to be laid on top of the bed. It should lie on top of a bedskirt. They're very lightweight, so they're best for warmer climates and seasons.

  • Duvet: A duvet is essentially a bag filled with down, feathers, or a synthetic fiber — much like a comforter. Unlike comforters, though, duvets cannot be used alone, as you must have a cover for them. You also can't typically machine-wash duvets like other bedding, which is another good reason to have a cover.

  • Quilt: Quilts are usually very decorative and provide some warmth, but aren't overly fluffy. The term might make you think of vintage patchwork quilts, but modern quilts come in a variety of patterns that can suit any bedroom decor.

When Do Target Bedding Sets Go On Sale?

Shopping at Target can mean finding great deals any time of year. However, if you're looking for savings on bedding, keep an eye out during certain months. For instance, January is a generally good time to shop. In addition to affordable prices, Target typically takes an extra 15% off bedding and bath items during this time.

Looking for more savings? Check back in February when we could see discounts up to 25% off. If you can wait even longer, keep an eye out for Target bedding during May, particularly around Memorial Day. Last year, Target cut up to 50% off bedding and bath products during that time.

These are general sales to watch for, but you can also expect Target to offer category-specific savings. For instance, in December 2020, the bullseye retailer knocked 20% off select weighted blankets. Considering these are used as tools to relieve anxiety and 2020 was definitely a stressful year, this was a welcome discount!

Target Bedding Set Prices for Every Size

The great thing about shopping bedding sets at Target is you can find something in any size you may need. While certain sizes might mean a limited selection of patterns or colors, the fact is that something there will fit your bed and decor.

Basic bedding sets, the prices of which we've outlined below, should come with a blanket and pillow shams. However, you can definitely find bigger bedding sets that will come with those items and more, including sheets, decorative pillows, and bedskirts.

Shop Target Twin-Size Bedspreads From $25

If you're looking for bedding sets, remember that Twin and Twin XL will often come with just the main blanket and one pillow sham. That means if you prefer to sleep with two pillows, you'll need to buy an extra sham if you want everything to match.

If you're buying sheets, expect to look specifically for sets that are labeled "California King." Notably, some bedding sets might be labeled as suitable for both King and California King. Like the Full- and Queen-size sets, King and California King should both include the main blanket and two pillow shams.
