Get Your Lingerie Fix for Valentine's Day

Published
Sometimes the best gift is the one you give yourself. In this particular instance, it's buying some lingerie for Valentine's Day. Your boyfriend/spouse/significant other will also benefit – they'll get some pure eye candy and avoid a potentially insulting and awkward moment where they've purchased the lingerie, only for you to discover that the underwear/under things are at least one size too big (guys, next time can you just be a little sneaky and look at the tag of our clean underwear before buying us this stuff?). In any event, we've put together our picks, from the overtly sexy and adventurous to the subtly seductive.

1) The Risk Taker

It may only be once a year that you indulge in something less practical than your trusty Hanes undies, so if you've got the confidence, and want to go all out, we've got a few recommendations that won't break the bank, especially if you just wear them once. The Ruffle Crotchless Panty (pictured) at Frederick's of Hollywood is on sale for $9.99 in select colors (search "91260"), with more options at the $18 mark. If you're in the mood for a naughty nightie of sorts, the Triangle Lace Chemise is $19.99 (search "91377"), also Frederick's of Hollywood. For less lingerie and more roleplay, we also found an array of sexy costumes on sale at LoveFifi.com, ranging from A Warrior Princess to a School Girl, all under $30.

2) Accessorize, Accessorize, Accessorize!

There are some items that you can add to enhance your already-fabulous lingerie. Depending on your taste, they can range from the downright silly to seriously sexy. Start off with this Santa Girl Bow-Back Miniskirt, $14.99 at Victoria's Secret. You can pair with practically any solid-colored bra and it will look absolutely fabulous. Another way to spice up your bra and panty set is with a matching pair of Sheer Stockings with Lace Tops, $3.55 at Henry and June (available in five colors). You can choose to attach them to a garter belt like this one in white or black for $8.95. Next, slip on a pair of sexy shoes, like these 3" Classic Marabou and Satin Slippers for $20.20 (pictured) at Amazon.com. Lastly, if you consider yourself or your significant other a slave for love, you may want to consider this whip for $4.99 at BacheloretteParties.com, or a Leopard version, for $3.99 at LoveFifi.com. Use with caution: the last thing you need is a trip to the hospital in your skivvies.

3) Pajama Party

Wearing something new and exciting for your honey doesn't mean it has to be a show of skin. Let him take notice of your new duds without lace from here to there – definitely ditch that old tee shirt and sweats that you've been sleeping in as of late, and upgrade to something a little more put together. The Vera Wang Charlie's Angels Silk Gown, $122.90 (pictured) at Saks Fifth Avenue is all that a silk gown is cracked up to be, with an elegant, fitted silhouette without overdoing it with lace and details. If you prefer a two-piece pajama set, go for something a little different like the ruched top and matching pant in this Vera Wang Happily Ever After PJ Set, $116.90, also at Saks. We also love the Lauren Ralph Lauren Knit Pajama Set, $35.40 at Macy's (search "Lauren Ralph Lauren Knit Pajama Set"). If you've got a nice, fitted tee or tank, and just need a new pair of pants, pick up these Kardiff Pajama Pants, $9.90 at Hollister (click "Bettys" "clearance" and "sleepwear").

4) What's In is Out

Little camisoles and chemises that can double as apparel will go the extra mile for you. For a well-rounded look, pair them with undies that match, either from the same set, or pick a solid-colored pair of underwear to match a color in the top. A few of our favorite, versatile pieces include the Gilligan & O'Malley Fluid Knit Chemise in Ebony, $7.49, and the Gilligan & O'Malley Eyelet Camisole in White (pictured), $8.99, both at Target. We also think the Oscar de la Renta "Romantic Garden" Printed Crepe Georgette Chemise for $36 at Macy's (search "Oscar de la Renta Printed Crepe Georgette Chemise") could do double time as a tunic top, along with the Jessica Slip, $12.90 at Forever 21 -– definitely good enough to wear solo.

5) If Modesty is Your Policy

For those of use who tend to err on the modest side (okay, you can call us prudes!), and don't quite feel comfortable in a bustier, teddy, and the like, there are still some options to bring sexy back without feeling totally embarrassed and awkward. For starters, the short length and short sleeves of this Unisex Loop Terry Resort Robe, $34, at American Apparel can still cover you up yet will lend a playful attitude to getting dryed off and dressed. We also found this Satin Lace Sleepwear Set for $14.80 at Forever 21 to be incredibly feminine and flattering yet elegant all at once. Last, perhaps just buying yourself a new set of practical underwear can get you into an "everyday sexy" mood. We like the VS Cotton line at Victoria's Secret (bras, 2/$40, panties 5/$25) as good, comfortable basics that don't push the sexy meter up too high, yet don't gauge at all on the "granny" meter.

6) Always a Classic

The bra and panty set – can't really go wrong, right? It depends how lacey, racey, or basic you may want to go, so we've provided all three options! Let's start with the risqué category, that leaves less to the imagination. The shelf bra does exactly what it intends to do, which doesn't include covering everything. We found this Satin Shelf Bra & Thong Set for $24.99 at Frederick's (search "91389") that is sure to let your significant other know right away what you have on your mind. If you've decided that it's time to make a huge sexy splurge, go for the Angharad Bra (pictured), $105, paired with the Brief, $70, at Agent Provocateur. Heading in a direction that is still sexy but less va va voom, we recommend the Gessica Satin Bra, $6.80 and the matching Gessica Satin Thong, $3.80 at Forever 21. Finally, we've poured over the countless options at Victoria's Secret, and decided that several of the most versatile bra and panty combinations for use on V-Day and beyond are the Very Sexy Bra and Panties ($34-$36 for the bra, 3/$30 for the panites), or the Body by Victoria Padded Demi Bra and Panties ($39.50 for the bra, 3/$30 for the panties).

Regardless of your style, budget, or body type, there's an option here for everybody. If only we could get them all! Happy Valentine's Day!
