How to Save on Peacock
Score Deals for New Customers
If you're a first-time subscriber to Peacock, it's always worth checking whether they have any new customer discounts on offer. These will generally occur around big shopping holidays — think Black Friday, obviously, but also Labor Day, Independence Day, and so on. For example, last Black Friday, Peacock offered a monthly subscription for $1.99 a month (for 12 months), or an annual subscription for $19.99. (Their regular subscription prices were lower at that time, but back then, that saved you $4 a month, or $40 for the year.)
See What Bundle Deals Are Available
As much as streaming services started as an alternative to cable packages, by now bundles are one of the best ways to get the most bang for your binge-watching buck. Your options for Peacock at the moment are sadly limited, but if you're an Xfinity post-paid Internet or Xfinity TV subscriber, there's good news. With the Xfinity Streamsaver bundle, you can add Netflix Standard (with ads), AppleTV Plus, and Peacock Premium to your plan for a combined $15 per month. That's $10 less than you'd pay for the plans separately.
Use Discounts You Qualify For
The real trick to getting a discounted Peacock subscription is obviously to train for the better part of a decade to become a first responder. It's the long con, but how sweet the payoff. We're mostly joking, but Peacock really does offer discounts to the following groups:
- Student discount: Actively enrolled students just have to verify their identity through the industry-standard SheerID. Then, you get to enjoy the service for just $1.99 a month.
- Teacher discount: Teachers obviously have to attend school every day just like students, but they get paid a little better (and we hear you: only a little) — that means you get Peacock for $2.99 a month. (Once you're verified, of course. All of these discounts require it.)
- Military discount: Any active duty U.S. military member, Reservist, or National guard member, as well as retirees and veterans, can get Peacock for $2.99 a month.
- First responder discount: First responders, whether they're working for a public or private institution, get Peacock for $1.99 a month.
All of these discounts can be renewed annually for as long as you can verify your status.
Get a Free Trial Through Instacart
Instacart Plus is a grocery delivery subscription service, which offers a range of features such as unlimited free delivery on orders over $35, reduced service fees, and credit back on eligible purchases. But more importantly for this conversation, with the service you also get a Peacock Premium subscription. And what's more, you can get a 2-week trial of Instacart Plus, during which you can use that Peacock Premium perk — the closest Peacock comes to offering a free trial. (After the trial is up, Instacart Plus costs $99 a year.) Click here for more detailed instructions on redeeming this promotion.
Take Advantage of Xfinity Subscriber Perks
As we've mentioned above, select Xfinity customers can avail of the Xfinity StreamSaver bundle, which also nabs you Netflix Standard (with ads) and Apple TV Plus. But even aside from that, there are a number of ways to get Peacock for free through Xfinity. We've detailed your options more thoroughly here, but in short:
- Add Xfinity Gig-Speed or Faster Internet: Gigabit internet or faster with Xfinity comes with at least two years of free Peacock Premium.
- Be in the Xfinity Rewards Platinum or Diamond Tier: Xfinity Rewards members can, at the Diamond or Platinum tiers, get Peacock Premium for free with any level of Xfinity internet. The downside: you'll need to have been an Xfinity customer for upwards of seven years to qualify for Platinum status, or upwards of 14 years for Diamond. But if you've been planning ahead appropriately, now is the time to cash in.
- Get NOW TV: Already the most urgently-named of all on-demand visual entertainment offerings, NOW TV also offers Peacock Premium as an extra, which only makes things seem even more urgent. Oh no! But: Oh yes!
- Have Xfinity Internet and Select TV Boxes: Do you have Xfinity Internet and [deep breath] an X1 TV Box, Flex streaming TV Box, or a Xumo Stream Box from Xfinity? All of those complicated names add up to one thing: six months of free Peacock Premium.
Sign Up for an Annual Plan
While less impressive than some of the other discounts, this also has the upsides of being less arcane, and open to all customers. Simply opting for an annual subscription over paying month to month basically gets you two months for free. Peacock Premium costs $7.99 monthly, but only $79.99 annually (a $16 savings), while Premium Plus costs $13.99 monthly, but only $139.99 annually (a $28 savings). We will never reveal where we learned this dark secret, so long as you promise to not look too closely at the widely-available Peacock homepage.
Opt for Peacock Premium Over Premium Plus
Speaking of the price differences between Premium and Premium Plus, do you really need Premium Plus? No ads (well, "limited" ads) is a nice perk, as is being able to download and watch select titles offline, and having access to a live feed of your local NBC channel. But "nice" isn't necessarily "essential", and forgoing those perks saves you $6 via monthly subscriptions, or $60 via an annual subscription.
Peacock TV FAQs
How Much Is a Peacock TV Subscription?
Peacock Premium costs $7.99 when you pay monthly, or $79.99 if you pay annually, netting you 12 months for the price of 10. Peacock Premium Plus is much the same, with a cost of $13.99 monthly, and $139.99 annually — again, 12 months for the price of 10.
Is There a Free Peacock Tier?
Sadly, no. It's true that Peacock used to have an entirely free tier for users, but it discontinued that option as of January 2023. Now if you want to watch any of the Peacock catalog, you'll have to shell out at least $7.99 per month unless you can redeem discounts for military members or students. Or, as you saw above, you can snag it for free with an Instacart+ membership.
Can You Watch Peacock Without Ads?
There's not really a simple answer to this. It's not as easy as yes or no — you can cut back on the amount of ads you have, but not remove them completely. Paying more for the Premium Plus tier of the service will net you ad-free streaming at first glance, but a disclaimer notes that "due to streaming rights, a small amount of programming will still contain ads (Peacock channels, events and a few shows and movies)." So, you'll have to deal with ads one way or another.
How Do Peacock Premium and Premium Plus Compare?
Peacock Premium has over 50 always-on channels, live sports and events (including, very recently, the Summer Olympics), as well as TV shows, movies, and originals. Premium Plus offers all of that plus the ability to download and watch select titles offline, no ads (mostly), and a 24/7 feed of your local NBC channel.
Aside from that, as mentioned above, you'll pay $7.99 per month for the Premium tier while the Premium Plus tier will be $13.99 per month. You also won't be able to get totally ad-free viewing, but Premium Plus will get you pretty close, except for during some live events, some shows and movies, and when viewing Peacock channels.
Premium tier plans will allow you to watch more than 80,000 hours of shows, films, and originals, as well as live sports and events, current NBC and Bravo shows, and more than 50 Always-On channels. If you spring for the higher Premium Plus tier, you'll also see limited ads, the ability to download and watch select titles offline, and access to your local NBC channel live, 24/7.
Which Peacock Tier Should You Sign Up For?
Since the two Peacock tiers are mostly the same, the easiest way to decide which one is right for you is to ask yourself a few questions. Do you care about ads? Do you want to download content? Do you have a want or need to see your local NBC channel live 24/7?
Based on how you answer these questions, paying $6 more per month or $60 more per year can make the higher priced Premium Plus tier well worth parting with some extra cash.
What Channels Does Peacock Offer?
Peacock Premium offers:
- Hallmark channels (Hallmark, Hallmark Mystery, and Hallmark Family)
- News channels (NBC News Now, Sky News, Today All Day)
- Sports channels (NBC Sports, Premier League TV, WWE Network, Golf Pass)
- Crime and mystery channels (Dateline 24/7, True Crime, Snapped, Classic TV Crime)
As well as more specific channels, like Top Gear, Hell's Kitchen, and SNL Vault. To the surprise of few, at time of writing, the Hell's Kitchen channel was showing Hell's Kitchen.
What Are the Top Shows and Movies on Peacock?
Some highlights of Peacock's movie selection include:
- The Fall Guy
- The Bikeriders
- Kung Fu Panda 4
- Abigail
- Despicable Me
And its top TV Shows include:
- America's Got Talent
- Community
- Yellowstone
- Poker Face
What Devices Does Peacock Support?
The venerable J. Ramhold already amassed an intimidating list of ways to watch Peacock, so we'll simply crib her homework and present it as if it were our own.
"Peacock supports a wide variety of devices, including Chrome, Firefox, MS Edge, and Safari browsers, Android and iOS on mobile and tablets, and a slew of smart TVs, game consoles, and streaming devices."
"Amazon, Android TV, Apple TV, Chromecast, Google TV, Hisense VIDAA devices, LG smart TVs, various Roku devices, Samsung smart TVs, Vizio smart TVs, and Xumo are all noted as having supported devices for streaming Peacock. Aside from that, there are also some set top boxes from cable providers like Cox, DirecTV, Spectrum, and Xfinity. As for gaming systems, the PlayStation 4 and 5 as well as the Xbox One, Series X, and Series S all have Peacock streaming support. Additionally, Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest Pro both boast support for streaming Peacock."
What Happens If You Try to Stream Peacock on Four Devices at Once?
You'll bring about the apocalypse! Okay we're just being dramatic. The truth is that Peacock only allows concurrent viewing of three streams at a time. If you try to stream on four devices at once, one of them is going to display an error message about how you've reached your stream limit. Note that there's also a chance you'll see this message if you've recently tried to switch from one device to another; if that happens, give it about 10 minutes before you try to stream again — that should take care of it.
How Many Profiles Does Peacock Allow for One Account?
If you're sharing your Peacock account with others, having separate profiles is a good way to ensure family and friends don't mess up your list or recommendations. While you can only have three streams of Peacock going at the same time, you can have up to six profiles on your account. They can be any combo of regular and Kid profiles, but the main profile can't be a Kids profile (for obvious reasons).
Can You Download Peacock Content to Watch Offline?
Yes, so long as you have a Peacock Premium Plus subscription. However, this perk is only available for select titles. Each account can have up to 25 pieces of content downloaded across all devices at any one time. Programs that are eligible for watching offline will have a "Download" icon in the bottom-right corner of their page. To watch them offline, simply go to your Downloads page.
Note that logging out of your Peacock account or uninstalling the Peacock app on a device will result in your downloads being removed from that device.
Does Peacock Offer Parental Controls?
The good news is that, yes, Peacock offers parental controls. They're profile-based and related to Maturity Ratings, so you can set up multiple profiles with different restrictions if you need to. Plus, they use Profile Pin protection so kids can't get around your settings.
There are three different ratings you can choose from when setting up a Kids profile:
- Little Kids which has content rated TV-Y
- Older Kids that has content rated TV-Y7, TV-Y7-FV, TV-G, and G
- Family which has content rated TV-PG and PG
Does Peacock Give You Cloud DVR?
Sadly, nope, Peacock does not offer cloud DVR storage. If you want to save items to watch later, you're going to have to spring for Premium Plus and hope the titles you want to download can indeed be downloaded.
Can You Use a VPN to Watch Peacock?
This is another one that's a bit difficult to answer. Technically, no, you're not supposed to even be able to use a VPN to view Peacock content. The service can detect certain VPN services, but anecdotally some users have reported success with VPNs like ExpressVPN, ProtonVPN, and CyberGhost. It should be noted that even if you can get one to work, it might not work every time. And keep in mind that if using one violates the terms of service, Peacock could end up suspending your account if you're caught using one.
How Do You Contact Peacock Customer Service?
You can get in touch with Peacock's customer service in the following ways:
- Twitter (or, for a certain quality of user, X): @PeacockTVCare
- Facebook: @PeacockTVCare
- Instagram: @Peacock
Is Peacock Worth Subscribing To?
This is among the most subjective questions we've posed ourselves throughout this article. After all: we are not, by definition, you, and cannot make this decision in your stead. Do you like NBC's offerings of sports and WWE and Hell's Kitchen and such? Then yes. It's certainly nowhere near the most expensive streaming service, especially if you qualify for any of the discounts we've mentioned above, so it's unlikely to break your bank. And hey: we've already asked ourselves this question!
But we can go one better: a table, giving an overview of the costs of some of the most popular streaming services, so you might better understand the relative value of a Peacock subscription.

What Company Owns Peacock?
NBC Universal owns Peacock and so if you're subscribing to the service you can expect plenty of NBC content to choose from. Additionally, you'll have access to select NFL games, Bravo titles, and other live sporting events. A lot of the content will indeed come from NBC but the lineup can still change, so don't wait too long to watch something if you see a title that interests you.
How Do You Cancel Peacock?
You could probably fake your own death, resulting in your various cards and bank accounts being canceled, and then in your new life in sunny Cuba, your Peacock subscription will be a distant memory, consigned to the dustbin of history along with your family, friends, and old job, while you get on with the important work of establishing Havana's premier roller disco.
Or, more reasonably:
- Log in to your account
- Go to Plans and Payments
- Select Cancel Plan
Once your current billing cycle concludes, your plan will not renew. You'll get an email confirming your cancellation. Note that if you're subscribed to Peacock through a third party, you'll have to contact them to cancel your plan. For more details on that, we'll put you in the safe hands of Peacock's help section.
