Lowe's Releases a Black Friday Ad on Vine That's Actually Pretty Entertaining

Stores are getting more creative with promoting Black Friday through social media. After all, it's not just when a Black Friday ad is released, but how!

Even though Facebook and Twitter were both available to the general public since 2006, it wasn't until 2009 that stores began embracing social media as a way to "leak" or tease their Black Friday sales. That year, Staples, Lowe's, and Toys "R" Us started dumping their entire Black Friday ads onto Facebook for your "like"-ing.

Ever since those floodgates opened, stores have found new ways to exploit social media outlets for Black Friday gain. And it's no wonder; people are now inured to Black Friday Ad Creep (where ads appear earlier and earlier), so it has become more crucial for a store's ad to stand out from the pack — which makes how an ad is released of vital importance as well.

Last year, Macy's took to Pinterest to show off a sneak peek of its Black Friday offerings, garnering a lot of press coverage for the sheer "newness" of it all. We predicted that more stores would follow suit, and lo and behold, Lowe's opted to be both early and attention-grabbing this week by releasing 6-second Vine videos that tease Black Friday deals. The store will release a Vine a day, beginning with this amusing fire-proof safe ad:

That makes this the first time we've seen a store employ Vine to sell Black Friday, and it continues the trend we've come to expect of retailers exploiting any and all social media outlets.

But perhaps more importantly, it's also the first time we can ever remember being entertained by a Black Friday ad leak. (Usually they're pretty boring, if we're being totally honest!) Who would have thought we'd be devoting a feature to a fire-proof safe, if not for this clever take on the ad?

So what's the next social forum for retailers to creatively explore? SnapChat? (It certainly won't be Ello, are we right guys?!) Let us know which social outlet you think should be next.
