JCPenney Is Selling Merchandise for Just a Penny

There are "buy one, get one" promos online, but the ultimate savings are reserved for in-store customers.

JCPenney has experienced some difficulties in recent years, even going so far as to close 40 of their stores in 2015. But after a better-than-expected fourth quarter, the retailer is launching a new program in order to appeal to the "modern mom."

The so-called "Get Your Penney's Worth" campaign will roll out "Penney Days" sales on private label items throughout the year — knocking many items to quite literally a penny. Here's what you need to know to get the deal.

The Deals Are Online, But the Biggest Savings Are In-Store

Though the first and second round of "Penney Days" have been available both in-store and online, future promotions will theoretically feature select in-store only items for one cent with no additional purchase required. There's no set schedule for the promotions, although so far the first two sales have been back-to-back. That said, savvy shoppers should keep an eye out for the upcoming events.

The first promotion ended last week, and it allowed customers to purchase a regular-price Arizona brand apparel or accessory item, and then purchase another Arizona apparel or accessory item for a penny. This week's promo is similarly a "buy one, get one" deal for home items, although customers who are willing to shop in-store can get a towel for a penny with no additional purchase necessary.

Look for the #SoWorthIt Hashtag to Learn About Upcoming Sales

According to Mary Beth West, chief customer and marketing officer for JCPenney, the department store wants to make sure every shopping experience is worth the time, effort, and money the customer puts into it. In order to promote the program, JCPenney will launch a social media campaign that will use the hashtag #SoWorthIt. Customers should look for this hashtag in order to know when a new "Penney Days" promotion is coming up.

So I want to put my two cents. I bought my son Arizona shorts the original price 20 dollars and got the second pair for 1 penny. Usually those are about 14.99 when they are on sale. I also had a coupon for 15 percent off. It's almost clearance prices. A pair of vans shorts about 30 dollars and almost identical style and quality.

I don't know...their stuff has become so overpriced, it takes way too much time and effort in trying to find a good deal on their site for me, shipping has been rather slow the times I have ordered from the, and (if I remember correctly) they charge for ship to store more often than any other site I'm familiar with. I grew up with this store, as my Mom used to shop there when I was a kid, but sadly, it's gone way downhill over the past several years, in my opinion. I will, however, say that when I had difficulty using a coupon JCP sent in the mail failed to work, (despite meeting all of the necessary criteria) the Customer Service Rep I called found it odd as well, was very nice, and ended up finding a better promo for me to apply.
