Analyzing the 2012 Black Friday Ads: Tommy Hilfiger and Victoria's Secret
This year's leaked Black Friday ads are beginning to trickle in, and dealnews is aiming to put them all into perspective, so shoppers can be aware of whether the deals are actually any good. We've already looked at ads from Sprint and Harbor Freight Tools, and now we've got our sights set on the leaked ads from Tommy Hilfiger and Victoria's Secret.
A Great Sale From Tommy Hilfiger... Maybe
Ultimately, there isn't much to the 2012 Tommy Hilfiger Black Friday ad, which is still (understandably) unconfirmed. Supposedly, Tommy will take 40% off everything, upon which a stacking coupon will also apply. These coupons will include an extra 15% off with no minimum, an extra 20% off purchases over $150, or an extra 25% off purchases over $200.
However, the ad is unclear about whether the 40% off will be in addition to existing sale prices, or if everything will be uniformly 40% off. Judging from years past though, the former might be true; in 2011, Tommy took an extra 40% off sitewide, including sale items that were marked up to 60% off. If the store repeats this for Black Friday 2012, then this year's promotion (sale + 40% off + extra coupon discount) would trump last year's Black Friday deal, as well as offer the best combined discount we've seen from the brand since last January.
A Victoria's Secret Freebie, If You Spend a Lot of $$$
Meanwhile, the very brief 2012 Victoria's Secret Black Friday ad makes the Tommy Hilfiger circular seem like a veritable tome. The lingerie store will purportedly offer a free tote bag and beauty samples for orders of $65 or more. Seeing as the store frequently offers freebies with such large purchases (check out current Victoria's Secret coupon codes and promotions here), it's a fairly underwhelming offer for the biggest shopping event of the year.
That doesn't mean that this will be all Victoria's Secret ends up discounting this Black Friday though. Last year, the store pushed promotions on Thanksgiving, discounting shipping with no minimum and offering a buy one get one 50% off sale for bras. Victoria's Secret then gave away a free pair of panties, with no purchase required, in-store the week after Black Friday. It was a rare promotion, and we hope the store will do something similar for 2012 as well.
