Ello, a new stripped-down social network, has gotten quite a bit of attention lately. People are saying it might be the successor to Facebook! It's pared down and completely bare-bones, but Ello promises to never have ads. (They'll make their money from selling "premium upgrades.") Well, we got our hands on some invites and gave it a whirl.

ello will be hot until whoever owns it discovers they actually need to make money. Then they'll either have to charge users a fee to interact or they'll start running ads. And that will be the end.

Most Fb users don't need or want to be members at multiple sites to be around their friends. If ello becomes just Facebook with a different UI, they're toast.
