Toys "R" Us Fabulous 15: Hot toys of the holiday season

Published
The good people at Toys "R" Us headquarters have ways of predicting what the hot new toys for the next Christmas season are going to be.

I can't definitely say that it involves hundreds of kids' brains, in jars, hooked up to a super computer, but that's where I'd put my money. Who knows what dark arts are practiced in the name of Geoffrey the Giraffe?

But, I can say for sure, these folks haven't been too far off in years past.

Is that because the list of toys posted in its Fabulous 15 every year is read by placating parents, hoping to buy junior the best possible toy, swallowing the Kool-Aid that TRU is dispensing? Or, is it truly a list of what kids want? Either way, it's been, and will be, again, a good barometer for what toys are going to be fought over, by gotta-have parents, in the aisles of local toy shops.

Need I remind you of the T.M.X. Elmo fiasco of '06?

So, with "which-came-first" doubts, reminiscent of the old chicken-and-egg, we present the Toys "R" Us "Fabulous 15". (And, since we wouldn't be a deal site without them, we offer links where you can find them - jumping on the trend before it gets mad-crazy when the snow starts to fall.)

  • Aqua Dots Super Studio from SpinMaster
Like Dippin' Dots, except inedible ... oh ... wait ...
  • ClickStart My First Computer from LeapFrog
Slightly less functional than the "OLPC", but available and real.
  • Razor Scooter Daisy Pocket Mod
Since this is a "Toys "R" Us Exclusive", it's pretty dubious that it's on this list. But, who knows, maybe kids are clamoring for a pink scooter?
  • EyeClops
So ... Cool ... Plug this hand-held microscope into any TV and it'll display what it sees at up to 200x.
  • Fisher-Price GeoTrax Grand Central Station
This wooden train teaches kids to be good, green commuters and use the train. It's made from non-renewable old-growth forests.
  • Step 2 Grand Walk-In Kitchen
It'll help your kid tap their Bobby Flay potential. Or, at least, their Emeril potential. Bam?
  • Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock
Yeah, you'll be fighting other parents, in the aisles, for this one, but it'll be for yourself, right? Am I right? Right.
  • Hannah Montana In Concert Singing Doll
No word on when the "Billy Ray Cyrus: How the Mighty Have Fallen" doll will debut.
  • Playskool Made For Me MP3 Player
Because it's never too early to teach your kid the benefits of drowning out the outside world - and nagging parents - with music. (TRU Exclusive)
  • Monopoly: Boutique Edition
Paint it pink all you want, it's still a long, boring game. (TRU Exclusive)
  • Shining Stars Stuffed Animals
Buy a toy, get a star named after you for free. Seriously!
  • Fisher-Price Smart Cycle Physical Learning Arcade System
It's like a video game system, but with more exercise.
  • Sesame Street T.M.X. Cookie Monster or Ernie
At least it's not Elmo, again. Thank God.
  • Transformers Ultimate Bumblebee
Crappy movie. Awesome toys. A whole new generation of kids get to play with Transformers, just like I did. Does anyone have original ideas anymore?
  • XPV Robotic Air Defense
Remote control flying robot?! We live in the future - never forget that!
As you can see, the list encompasses a fairly good range from young to younger age groups.

Now go out and CONSUME!
