Rumor Roundup: iPhone 5 Scratches? $99 Nexus Tablet? More?

When the Internet runs out of news, it starts making things up. We think this is funny, so we round up all the lies and speculation and put them here. We call it the "Rumor Roundup" and we do it all for you! This week:

  • Does the iPhone 5 Scratch Too Easily?
I guess Apple has solved all of the other problems with modern cellphones, so this is all we're left to complain about. Also: Be sure to keep it away from your cat and Mix Master Mike. (Two things that like to scratch. Guffaw.) [All Things D]

  • Amazon Getting into Mobile Payments?
"Debit, Credit, PayPal, Google, or Amazon?" —future bored-looking cashier at your local grocery store. (Followed by "Paper, Plastic, or Transmat Beam?" This is way in the future.) [CNET]

  • Google and ASUS Releasing a $99 Nexus Tablet in Time for the Holidays?
Oh, Amazon. It. Is. ON! On like ... either King or Donkey Kong, the magnitude is undecided, as of yet. [CNET]

  • Apple Hiring Ex-Googlers to Improve Its Maps?
That's technically not using Google Maps anymore, right? Something about this reminds me of those people who will snottily tell you, "Oh, I don't OWN a TV!" and then you find out later that they watch a lot of YouTube and Hulu. [PC Mag]
