JetSet From Hawaii to Canada and Beyond with Bargain Airfare

By Paula Kerrigan, dealnews Assistant Editor

We'd all like to be like Buzz Lightyear sometimes and take off into space in our very own space suit. But, wait. Hang on. Who wants to hit up infinity when you could jet off to Hawaii, Canada, or even Mexico? And let's face it, Buzz's clunky space suit wouldn't be very flattering on the derriere. (Yes, the Christmas weight is still there!) Far better to sit back in a 747 and be transported in comfort to the destination of your choice. Luckily, we've found quite a few airfare sales to help you do just that.

Hawaii didn't need President Obama to put it on the map (unlike Moneygall, an unknown village in Ireland that shot to fame through it's claim to Obama's Irish ancestral roots). This unique collection of volcanic islands summons up visions of year-round sun, pristine beaches and sea, and tropical, yes Hawaiian shirts. If you want to say "Aloha" to Hawaii, book a trip on Hawaiian Airlines (from $328, a low by $75; travel valid through June 28), and enjoy Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, the bustle and beaches of Honolulu, and the magic of Maui.

If Hawaii is too laid back and tropical for your taste, then maybe the bright lights of New York — or the neon lights of Las Vegas — will lead you to a metropolitan adventure. You can fly via the JetBlue Airways sale (one-way flights from $46.80, a low by $74; expires April 16) or on Virgin Atlantic (roundtrip flights from $158, a low by $241; expires April 16) and enjoy both cities that never sleep. From shopping in SoHo to high stakes poker at the Bellagio, we hope you let your vacation begin the instant your plane lands.

But maybe you want to get "oot" of the United States for your vacation. The US's northern cousin, Canada, is waiting with open arms. Toronto is the largest city in Canada, and only a 4-hour drive from Detroit. But that of course doesn't mean you have to drive! Toronto Escapes will save you the trouble with discounts on flights via Air Canada (one-way flights from $125.29, a low by $4; expires April 15).

If it's indeed warm weather you're after, head south on AeroMexico to México (roundtrip flights from $305.98, a low by $12; expires April 15). Take your pick between the hustle and bustle of Mexico City or the quiet tropical paradise of Acapulco. Personally, we'd take a palm tree in Acapulco and a drink with an umbrella in it any day!

I don't know if that's completely false - I flew ANA direct from DC to Tokyo and it was such a comfortable (albeit long!) flight. My flight back home, via United...not so much.

I strongly object to the notion that, with today's airlines, you can be "transported in comfort." :D
