Get the Sex And The City Look: Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte, & Samantha
Carrie: The Fashion Risk Taker
Always loved Carrie's avant-garde and adventurous sense of fashion? Carrie is most definitely considered a trendsetter (Manolo Blahniks anyone?) who wasn't afraid to wear outrageous pieces with panache. We have pulled together an outfit inspired by the Fashion Queen from the SATC movie, that can be worn to work or for a day out on the town. The BDG Menswear Vest ($48, Urban Outfitters) goes great over this pink French Cuffed Stretch Shirt ($19.99, The Gap). Similar pants in shape to those Carrie sports on the silver screen are these Genetic Denim Mutated Twisted Seam Wide Leg Jean ($121, Shopbop.com). Top off the look with these unique Layla Pumps by Jessica Simpson ($78.95, Nordstrom); a more affordable version of her covetable Manolos. Very Carrie-esque, no?
Charlotte: Miss Prim and Proper
Charlotte was the character on the show known for her traditional thoughts, as well as veering on the conservative, pretty and preppy side of the fashion scale. Always extremely well put together; with nary a visible wrinkle, Charlotte's signature outfit was a crisply ironed knee length dress with a pair of killer shoes. The picture to the left sums up her style in a nutshell –- ladylike, elegant, and never too revealing. To duplicate this look at an affordable price, try snapping up this Calvin Klein Embroidered Dress ($99.90, Nordstrom) or perhaps this Semantics Lace Dress ($69.90, also Nordstrom). Polish off the look ala Charlotte these Leather Peeptoe Heels ($39.99, Urban Outfitters). And of course, you need some pearls to pull off the ultimate Charlotte; we like this 5 Pair Fresh Water Pearl Stud Earring Set with Free Pouch ($12.99, Limoges Jewelry), so you can always perfectly coordinate with the rest of your outfit.
Miranda: Fashion Forward Yet Professional
Miranda always kept her look professional, yet still fashion conscious at the same time. When it was time to take a night out on the town however, she was able to loosen up a bit. In the SATC movie, Miranda gets even more fashion savvy, as in the picture to the right where she dons a funky short dress. The key to this look is going for a bold graphic print, like this Silk Striped Knot Dress, ($130, Banana Republic) or the Retro Print Silk Shift Dress ($148, Ann Taylor). Don't be afraid to go bold with your earrings – try these Polished Crescent Earrings ($2.80, Forever 21) -- the texture makes them a sophisticated rendition of the oversized hoops you rocked in high school.
Samantha: Risky Business
Samantha Jones always liked to cross that fine line of over the top in many aspects on the show, and that mentality naturally lends itself to her sense of style. Ms. Jones prefers attire that has an air of eighties power dressing paired with bright colors and statement jewelry. With that said, we didn't think we could pull off a suit as well as she does, so we found this cute Isaac Mizrahi for Target Wrap Dress in shell pink that mimics the silhouette, ($29.99 at Target) and is a little more appropriate for the rest of us. The surplice cross-over detailing on the dress looks great on any shape. To spruce the outfit up we felt that these Mossimo Darby Mid-Heel Peep-Toe Pumps in Red Patent ($24.99, also Target) or these Kors Michael Kors Nappa/Patent Sandals ($116.90, Saks Fifth Avenue) would be a great match for her our favorite fictitious publicist. We also have seen some fabulous necklaces on Samantha throughout the six season, and decided that the look wouldn't be complete without a strong necklace. Our picks include this Rebecca Norman Disk Necklace or the Jami Rodriguez Cougar Agate Necklace, ($125 and $98 respectively, and actually seen on Samantha in the movie -- at Max & Chloe), the Short Goldtone Enamel Ring Necklace ($26, Ann Taylor Loft) and the Alexis Bittar Wishbone Necklace ($155, AlexisBittar.com).
Regardless of which SATC character's look you decide to emulate, your bound to look effortlessly chic, assertive, and ready to take on that asphalt jungle called Manhattan (or Brooklyn, or Chicago, or Cincinnati, or St. Louis, or wherever you live).
