Get the Look: Lauren Conrad
When Lauren's on the red carpet or socializing at high profile events, (which is about 80% of the time), she's wearing a dress. She exhibits typical Cali-style with short hemlines (rarely do they approach her knees) and strapless, trapeze shaped, or bubble skirted dresses. And why not, since the average low for "The Hills" is 49 degrees? We adore this pink chiffon halter dress Lauren wore to Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. It meets the requirements – above the knee, bare shoulders, youthful – while still maintaining modesty. We think this Sheer Matte Jersey Trapeze Dress for $69 at Rampage is a good alternative. It has a slightly higher waist but shares the circular, scoop neckline and straps. For an even cheaper option, try this Pin Dot Color Block Dress for $16.50 at Wet Seal, which closely follows the color block theme of the original. We also love this BCBGMAXAZRIA Charmeuse Trim Halter Tunic Dress for $99.90 at Nordstrom, which looks similar to many swing trapeze dresses Lauren has worn around town. And who can blame her – it looks great and no sucking in of the stomach is required.
Lauren has also designed her own collection of well-cut basics, which mainly include -- surprise surprise! -- dresses. Though we love her line (tried and true shapes are hard to fault) it can be a bit pricey so we suggest looking for similar pieces elsewhere. For example, this Maura Top is $85 at Lauren's own site, but you can also get this Sequin Tank Top for $14.50 at Wet Seal or this Charm Halter Top for $29 at Arden B. If you want a piece designed by Lauren herself, try the Jackie Tube Top for $42.
We also adore the way Lauren styles her hair, which adds to her carefree Cali look. An extreme side part and long side swept bangs are all the better to flirtatiously mask eyes, while a thick headband (much like the one from her line) is great when hair just isn't cooperating. This is indicative of her style on the whole – Lauren maintains a laid back Cali style, but pulls it off with polish and poise. Though she may wear a trapeze dress, which is the comfort equivalent of wearing an enormous T-shirt, she manages to be incredibly pulled together and pretty, which is definitely a style aspiration of ours.
