If you're looking to buy an iPad, there's no reason to wait until for Black Friday Apple deals! Yesterday, Apple announced that the almost 3-year-old iPad 2 would be sticking around at the same price point as the brand new iPad mini 2. If you can't decide between the two — or want the new iPad Air, or a refurb iPad mini — then look no further than our roundup of the latest iPad and tablet deals. For good measure, we've also gathered up the best Kindle Fire deal to date.
Is It Worth It?: Thinner and lighter than its predecessor "feels like you're just holding a big screen full of the Internet," says The Verge. The iPad Air, available in Space Gray or Silver, measures 0.29" thick, weighs one pound, and packs some powerful features including the newest A7 64-bit chip behind its 9.7" 2048x1536 Retina display. The iPad Air also boasts a FaceTime HD front-side camera, 5-megapixel iSight camera, 802.11n Wireless with MIMO, Lightning connector, and 10 hours of battery life.
The iPad Air will be available with storage up to whopping 128GB, with the iPad Air 128GB WiFi Tablet costing $799 and its iPad Air 128GB WiFi + 4G LTE Tablet brother priced at $929. Be sure to check out all the iPad Air models to find one that'll suit your needs.
Is It Worth It?: The other new iPad from yesterday's announcement comes in a smaller 7" package, but sports all of the latest Apple hardware as well. The iPad mini with Retina Display features a 7.9" LED-backlit IPS Retina display powered by an A7 chip with up to 10 hours of battery life. And like the iPad Air, it features a FaceTime HD front-side camera, 5-megapixel iSight camera, 802.11n Wireless with MIMO, Lightning connector.
If you're going for the maximum mini experience, you can opt for the iPad mini with Retina Display 128GB WiFi Tablet for $699, or the 128GB WiFi + 4G LTE model for $829. Be sure to check all the new iPad mini Retina models.
For those on a budget, Tuesday's announcement also brought with it news that Apple is keeping the original iPad mini around and dropping its price to $299 for the 16GB WiFi-only model, and $429 for 4G WiFi + 4G model.
Is It Worth It?: If you don't need the latest A7 processor, then look to the iPad 4, which you can find refurbished for $50 less now that the fifth generation iPad (Air) has been released. This Editor's Choice iteration is just a year old and still sports a very capable A6 chip and beautiful Retina Display.
This 9.4mm thick tablet weighs 1.4 lbs. also has quad-core graphics, a 5-megapixel iSight camera with 1080p video recording, front FaceTime camera, voice dictation, 802.11n wireless, Bluetooth 4.0, up to 10 hours of battery life, and iOS 6. Factory-refurbished, this iPad with Retina display also carries a 1-year Apple warranty.
Looking for other refurbished 4th generation iPads with Retina Display?
Is It Worth It?: The Apple Store is cutting up to $110 off its line of refurbished iPad minis. Prices start at $249 for the pictured Apple iPad mini 16GB WiFi, which is a $30 drop in price from last week and thus an Editors' Choice deal. You can also get your hands on other variations of the factory-refurb 7.9" tablets including the Apple iPad mini 32GB WiFi Tablet in White or Black for $339, and more. Note that each of these factory-refurbished iPad minis carries a 1-year Apple warranty.
This first generation tablet is 0.3"-thick tablet and weighs 0.7 lbs. Features include an Apple A5 1GHz dual-core processor, 7.9" 1024x768 LED-backlit touchscreen LCD, 802.11n wireless, Bluetooth 4.0, accelerometer, compass, up to 10 hours of battery life, and iOS 6.
Is It Worth It?: We don't expect to see many Kindle Fire deals on Black Friday, but this Amazon Local Voucher drops the price of the flagship tablet 20%! Not only is this $103 Kindle Fire $47 less than a deal we found in August for a new unit, it's also the lowest price we've ever seen for a refurb, thus earning its Editors' Choice stripes.
This refurbished tablet runs a modified version of Google's Android OS. It features a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 7" 1280x800 multitouch IPS display, 16GB internal storage, 802.11n wireless, and front-facing HD camera. A 1-year Amazon warranty applies.
