11 Things We Wish We Could Buy from Our Favorite TV Shows

In the past when we settled in to watch some TV, our finances only seemed at risk if we got sucked into an infomercial or if an ad did a particularly good job of selling us on a product. But these days, digital media is aiming to get viewers to actually spend money during the programs as well.

Get This is an editorial website that locates eye-catching items from popular TV shows — like Carrie's shoes from Sex and the City (or "the apothecary table from Friends," which people are apparently still pining for nine years later) — and makes them available for readers to buy. The site has recently taken this process a step further by releasing a mobile app that purportedly shows viewers the TV items they covet as they flash across the screen in real time. So far, it seems as if the app only works with two shows: the extremely-popular Scandal and the less-so The Carrie Diaries.

While this service is certainly neat for fans of these shows — and the clothing and accessories therein — we're hoping that this app will expand to a wider range of TV programs and allow us to pluck from the screen all the ridiculous plot artifacts and outright unbuyable goods that make our favorite shows so awesome. After an informal poll of the dealnews staff, here are a few things on our "most wanted" list that we'd like Get This to track down.

  1. Arrested Development: A Cornballer, a stair car, and Mr. Bananagrabber animation rights
    (Season 1 on DVD for $9.99 with $2.79 s&h, a low by $2)
  2. 30 Rock: A year's supply of Sabor de Soledad chips and a copy of The Rural Juror on Blu-ray

Readers, if the Get This app expanded beyond Scandal and The Carrie Diaries, what would you want to buy from your favorite TV shows? Let us know in the comments below! And since Arrested Development is probably the most densely packed show with nonsensical things we'd really like to own (Teamocil! Jean shorts! Franklin!), check out this supercut of the show's best quotes.
