Kidde has issued a recall of nearly 500,000 smoke detectors in the United States and Canada due to a failure to detect smoke. Affected models include PI2010 and PI9010 dual-sensor units purchased between September 2016 and January 2018 and are considered defective if a yellow cap is present when viewing the side of the unit. No injuries have been reported, but if a yellow cap is present, consumers should contact Kidde for a replacement and remove and discard the recalled alarm only after their replacement arrives.
